Rhodococcus ruber (Kruse 1896) Goodfellow and Alderson 1977

<- 1975, I.B. Ivshina, OEGM 17 RZh (Rhodococcus rhodochrous). Isolated from: underground water, oilfield, Perm region, Russia. Taxonomy/description: shows positive result with Rhodococcus ruber primers in species-specific PCR (245); 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis (GenBank accession number KY174957); (3, 52, 73). Properties: uses propane and n-butane as a sole carbon source; accumulates polyphosphate granules when growing on propane (52, 73); produces biosurfactants when growing on n-alkanes (C10-C16) (235); forms cholesterol oxidase; high adhesive activity towards polystyrene (408, 413). (Medium 2, 5, 8 or 11, 28oC).
