Rhodococcus ruber (Kruse 1896) Goodfellow and Alderson 1977

<- 1984, I.B. Ivshina, OEGM T-66v. Isolated from: surface water reservoir, the Taimir peninsula, Krasnoyarsk region, Russia. Taxonomy/description: demonstrates the reaction of complete identity with polyclonal antiserum against Rhodococcus ruber IEGM 70T (96); shows positive result with Rhodococcus ruber primers in species-specific PCR (245); (55, 95, 97). Properties: uses propane and n-butane as a sole carbon source (95); grows on medium with 10 mM cadmium, 10 mM chromium, 10 mM zinc (47); resistant to lincomycin, methicillin, oxacillin, polymyxin, cephalexin and nalidixic acid when growing on propane and n-hexadecane (230, 246); exhibits lysozyme activity (272); transforms thioanisole (257); resistant to Pb2+ (5.0 mM).
