Rhodococcus ruber (Kruse 1896) Goodfellow and Alderson 1977

<- 1979, I.B. Ivshina, OEGM B-270. Isolated from: turf soil, oil-gas field, Perm region, Russia. Taxonomy/description: shows positive result with Rhodococcus ruber primers in species-specific PCR (245); 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis (GenBank accession number MG637021); (55). Properties: uses propane and n-butane as a sole carbon source; produces biosurfactants when growing on n-alkanes (C10-C16) (235); accumulates caesium ions (251, 256); adheres to liquid hydrocarbons (n-hexadecane) (320); degrades drotaverine hydrochloride (342); resistant to n-hexane, 1-butanol, ethanol (349); resistant to Pb2+ (5.0 mM). (Medium 2, 5, 8 or 11, 28oC).
