Demonstrates the reaction of complete identity with polyclonal antiserum against Rhodococcus ruber IEGM 70^T (3); shows positive result with Rhodococcus ruber primers in species-specific PCR (245); 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis (303). Properties: uses propane, n-butane and n-hexadecane as a sole carbon source; produces biosurfactants when growing on n-alkanes (C₁₂-C₁₇) (74); forms cholesterol oxidase; transforms β-sitosterol (263, 277); resistant to Pb²⁺ (5.0 mM). (Medium 2, 5, 8 or 11, 28^oC).
