Rhodococcus ruber (Kruse 1896) Goodfellow and Alderson 1977

<- 1986, I.B. Ivshina, OEGM IK-64. Isolated from: sandy soil, Irkutsk region, Easten Siberia, Russia. Taxonomy/description: demonstrates the reaction of complete identity with polyclonal antiserum against Rhodococcus ruber IEGM 70T (96); (22, 55, 95). Properties: uses propane, n-butane, liquid n-alkanes (C5-C16) and aliphatic alcohols (ethanol, n-propanol, n-butanol) as a sole carbon source (95); grows on medium with 30 mM cadmium (47); resistant to lincomycin, methicillin, polymyxin and nalidixic acid when growing on propane and n-hexadecane (246); transforms thioanisole (257); resistant to Cr6+ (10.0 mM), Pb2+ (5.0 mM). (Medium 5, 8 or 15, 28oC).
